Frequently Asked Questions

About the Service

A foot care nurse is a registered nursing professional with additional certification in advanced foot care. Unlike a cosmetic pedicure, every visit includes a clinical assessment of your skin, nails, circulation and sensation, uses sterilized instruments, and follows infection-prevention protocols. It is health care, not a beauty treatment.

Anyone who finds foot care difficult or risky: seniors, people with diabetes, clients with poor vision, arthritis or limited mobility, and anyone with thickened nails, calluses, corns or ingrown toenails. If you are unsure, call us for a free consultation.

Most clients benefit from a visit every 6 to 8 weeks, which matches the natural growth cycle of toenails. Clients with diabetes or circulation problems may need more frequent monitoring — we will recommend a schedule after your first assessment.

Home Visits

Very little — just a comfortable chair near an electrical outlet and good lighting. Yaquelin brings all professional equipment, sterilized instruments and supplies. The visit usually takes 45 to 60 minutes.

Absolutely. Many of our appointments are booked by sons, daughters and caregivers. Use the booking form and select "I am booking for a family member" — we will coordinate the schedule with you and keep you informed after each visit.

Yes. We regularly visit clients in retirement residences and long-term care settings across Kitchener, Waterloo and Cambridge, and we are happy to coordinate with facility staff.

Diabetic & Medical Care

Yes. Diabetes can reduce sensation and circulation in your feet, so small injuries can go unnoticed and become ulcers or infections. Regular professional assessments are one of the most effective ways to prevent serious complications, including amputation. Diabetes Canada recommends regular foot screening for everyone living with diabetes.

In most cases, yes. We use conservative, non-surgical techniques to relieve pain and guide the nail to grow correctly. If your condition requires medical intervention, we will tell you honestly and help you get a referral to the right professional.

Pricing & Payment

OHIP does not cover private foot care nursing, but many extended health insurance plans do cover services provided by a registered nurse. We provide an official receipt after every visit that you can submit to your insurance provider — check your plan for "nursing services" or "foot care" coverage.

We accept cash and e-transfer at the time of the visit. A receipt is always provided for your records or insurance claims.
